New EBSCO Survey Probes Economic Impact on Libraries
(20/5/10) EBSCO have published the results from a recently conducted survey assessing the impact of current economic conditions on libraries. The results make for interesting reading with many respondents indicating they will continue to adopt a broad range of cost-saving strategies heading into 2010-2011 (full details).

New Publishers Join JSTOR's Current Scholarship Program
(28/4/10) Nine new publishers have recently joined ASA Associate Member JSTOR's Current Scholarship Program. Thanks to the participation of these new partners and the ten publishers that have already partnered with JSTOR in the Program, libraries will be able to license and provide their users with access to the current issues of 176 journals on the JSTOR platform beginning in 2011. JSTOR is holding four webinars to demonstrate how the Current Scholarship Program works. For more details contact JSTOR.

eBooks in SwetsWise
(March 2010) ASA member Swets has announced that its eBook procurement portal has been fully integrated into SwetsWise and is now available to all customers. The eBooks procurement portal relieves some of the major headaches involved in searching and selecting eBooks. It allows users to purchase both individual titles and eBook collections. Users can also compare and contrast the different pricing and purchase models available from different providers. The procurement features included will provide customers with a single source for purchasing eBooks and a means to select the desired access route to their acquired content, e.g. directly via the publisher or through an aggregator. SwetsWise now provides the unique capability to browse, acquire and manage all eBook purchases through the same interface in which they manage their print and electronic journal subscriptions (full story).

Harrassowitz Gains ISO 9001 Certification
(February 2010) Harrassowitz is pleased to announce that it has recently been awarded a new ISO 9001: 2008 certification. This latest award, which follows the company's earlier ISO 9001: 2000 certification in 2007, recognizes Harrassowitz's continued efforts to improve management and system processes involving the provision of electronic and print resources to academic and research libraries (full details).

LM Information Delivery Opens Office in Sweden
(February 2010) LM Information Delivery Group has established an affiliate in Sweden through the establishment of LM Informationstjänst Sverige AB. LM Information Delivery aims to strengthen its services in the Nordic region and provide customers with enhanced tools for acquisition, access and management of e-resources. LM Informationstjänst Sverige AB will service and support Nordic libraries and corporate customers locally and offer a new range of products for e-resources. East View Converts Pravda
(February 2010) East View Information Services, a leading provider of high-quality information products and services in world languages and English translation, has adopted new technologies and converted the historical archives of Pravda, the most important newspaper of the Soviet era, into an online collection. From this Spring this resource will be available in a complete archive, in full-image with searchable full text.

East View & Serials Solutions
(February 2010) East View Information Services have also reached an agreement with Serials Solutions whose Summon service will include East View content on its Universal Database platform, a source for newspapers, scholarly journals, government publications, archival content and business periodicals from Russia, China and across Eurasia. As with the other content providers to the Summon service, East View will provide full text directly to Serials Solutions for inclusion in the service's unified index (full details).

EBSCO Holds Open Days Across Asia
Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing has announced that EBSCO Open Days, now in its fourth year of bringing together librarians and publishers, is expanding to Asia. The Open Day series offers the opportunity to make valuable contacts within a single day, providing publishers with excellent exhibitor opportunities in which to share their e-content product information with attendees. In addition to learning more about the value of e-resource management available through EBSCO Discovery and Management Solutions, librarians, information managers, e-resource managers and serials and e-book acquisitions specialists will have the opportunity to learn more about e-content products from publishers such as M.E. Sharpe, Royal Society, World Scientific Publishing Company (WSPC), AAAS (Science), Institute of Physics (IOP), John Wiley & Sons, and Oxford University Press (OUP).

Swets in Partnership with Deep Web Technologies

JSTOR's Current Scholarship Programme Expands
The University of Chicago Press and ASA Associate Member JSTOR have announced they will join forces in JSTOR's Current Scholarship Program. Scheduled to launch early in 2011, the program will bring scholarly content from leading not-for-profit publishers to a single integrated platform, making its use more innovative, efficient, and affordable for faculty, students, librarians and publishers. Wiley Develops New Tool for Comparing eReaders
Publisher and Associate Member of the ASA John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has developed eReaderResource.com to help consumers tap into the power of an eReader to change the way they receive knowledge and entertainment no matter what the source. The site examines what an eReader is, what can be done with it, and which of the available devices is best on an individual basis (more on this).

Wiley Launches Chinese Language Website
Elsewhere in the news, Wiley has also launched its Chinese language website. www.wileychina.com which is expected to raise the publisher's profile in China through greater and more meaningful engagement with the community there. Designed to enhance Wiley's China-based customers' experience with tailored sections for librarians, authors, societies and industry partners, wileychina.com will feature general information about Wiley's presence in China as well as specific details about core content of particular interest to the Chinese community (full story).

EBSCO Roadshow - Coming soon to a library near you
(8/1/10) EBSCO has announced a series of dates for its 2010 Roadshow. The main theme of the roadshow is 'Helping  to build libraries for the future'. Librarians and other information professionals are encouraged to check the EBSCO website for roadshow dates and to make their booking.

EBSCO Launches ERM EssentialSTM
(6/1/10) EBSCO has launched EBSCONET® ERM EssentialsTM, which offers key features that librarians need to simplify management of their e-resources. ERM Essentials is pre-populated for orders of e-journals and e-packages purchased through EBSCO with daily updates to ensure accuracy. In 2009, 25 library customers partnered with EBSCO to beta-test ERM Essentials in two phases with an initial round during the spring and a second phase which began in mid-October. EBSCO reports that feedback from beta testers has been positive as they discover a new way to manage their e-resources, eliminating the challenge of maintaining multiple e-mail chains, paper files, spreadsheets and other decentralized information spread across multiple departments and staff (full story).
