Licensing and Subscription Management - Challenges to Publishers, Intermediaries and Libraries
12 September 2003
An ASA Seminar
Royal College of Nursing, Cavendish Square, London
Managing both licences and subscriptions is providing many administrative challenges for librarians, intermediaries and publishers. For the foreseeable future it seems we shall be living with a mixture of paper subscriptions, single subscriptions to electronic journals, combination subscriptions to both paper and electronic versions of the same journal, bulk licensing arrangements, aggregated databases and now open access journals. All these forms of subscription have to be administered and all have subtly different requirements as well as their strengths and weaknesses. This conference explores some of the ways in which librarians, agents and publishers are coping with these challenges from acquisition, access denials, consortia arrangements, journal aggregation and open access.
