Benefits of ASA Membership
The ASA exists to help and assist its members provide a better service to both customers and publishers. It does this through a wide range of activities in support of members needs, some of the most important of which are listed below.
- Exchange of views and services
- Provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information with competitors and colleagues on issues of common concern in a friendly environment. Enables members to make use of each others services where appropriate, for example the local purchase of material etc.
- Communication
- ASA News provides members with information and analysis of issues affecting subscription agents around the world. ASA News is an electronic newsletter which is published irregularly, (frequently twice a month) and is the Association's primary means of keeping in touch. The ASA Web site is currently under construction.
- Publisher relations
- The ASA exchanges Associate Membership Status with publishing and other relevant associations to ensure the views of Subscription Agents are heard.
- Support on terms of trade
- Active support and assistance in maintaining and, wherever possible increasing terms to agents so that the industry remains viable. The ASA continues to be instrumental in achieving better terms for members.
- Advice and assistance
- The Association gives advice and recommendations to members on any concerted action that might be desirable as necessary and appropriate. The Association provides advice and guidance to members on specific issues and where appropriate, takes action on behalf of individual members on matters of common interest.

- Accreditation Scheme
- A Members Accreditation Scheme is being introduced to assure publishers and customers of good business practice. The Accreditation scheme is based on a set of Guidelines to which all members agree and will be crucial in maintaining good terms of trade for members in the future.
- Conference
- Annual conference on issues of importance to the trade at which members can participate and attend at favourable rates.
- Participation and meeting members needs
- Meetings and committees at which members decide how the Association should be run and what issues it should tackle. All members, regardless of size, have identical rights at ASA meetings ensuring the concerns of the smaller members' are met.
To join the ASA please complete the enquiry form. The ASA has two classes of membership. Full members who are agents or intermediaries with a turnover on serials-related business of approximately £1 million, and associate members who may be smaller organisations or others with an interest in the serials business, for example publisher or library association or societies.
